Perhaps it is because we, as a society, are not getting enough sleep!
So how can you lose weight while you sleep?
Studies have shown that there is a link between lack of sleep and weight gain. Sleep deprivation undercuts the metabolic processes that control the burning of food versus storage of fat on your body.
Does it still sound too good to be true? Can you have weight loss while you sleep, even if you do nothing else to change your diet and your exercise habits?
In theory, yes. Studies have been conducted in which overweight subjects went through periods of sleep deprivation followed by periods of getting adequate sleep at night. They made no changes to their diet or their exercise habits at all. At the end of the study, it was found that the subjects actually put on weight when sleep deprived, and lost weight when they got enough sleep!
Can you lose weight while you sleep if you do nothing else to change your diet and exercise habits? Yes.
But can you lose weight while you sleep, and rely on it as your only means of weight loss? Probably not!
You still need to engage in a program of diet and exercise. But the bottom line is that getting adequate sleep certainly helps with weight management. If you are doing everything else right, eating healthy and getting some exercise, but you aren't satisfied with the pace of your weight loss, or you are reaching a weight loss plateau, then perhaps you can give your weight loss a boost by getting more sleep every night!
